DR ANCOIS OPPER
Educational Psychologist
B.Psych (UP), M.Ed Educational Psychology (UP) & PhD Psychology (UP)
I am an Educational Psychologist registered with the HPCSA and have been in private practice since 2006. I completed a PhD degree on the topic of bullying, more specifically related to the psychological games that bully victims and bully perpetrators play.
I also implemented an Anti-bullying Programme at a primary school in the east of Pretoria in 2006. I have enjoyed working as a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria, where I was involved in distance education for educators, and have taught both graduate and postgraduate students in Education and Psychology. I have also served as mentor for students completing their master’s studies. I have contributed a chapter to the book From Microscope to Kaleidoscope and write informal articles for a local magazine on an ad hoc basis. Articles I have contributed to dealt with topics such as bullying, strong-willed children and parent-child attachments. I have also presented parent guidance workshops on ‘Parenting in the 21st Century’, ‘Bullying’ and ‘Children with Healthy Boundaries’.
It is, however, in private practice that I have the privilege of working with children and teens (and their parents) who seek help with educational, emotional or behavioural issues which they struggle to deal with and which leave them feeling hopeless. It is my passion to help my clients to find ways to effectively deal with their problems and to help them believe that there is always hope.
